Doom: The Dark Ages Announced at Xbox Games Showcase
During the Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft and id Software unveiled an exciting new entry in the iconic Doom series, titled Doom: The Dark Ages. This marks the first fresh installment since 2020's Doom Eternal and is set to release in 2025. id Software, known as the originators of the franchise, are at the helm of development, promising to bring a new depth to the beloved series.
The announcement came alongside a thrilling trailer that presented the Doomslayer in an evolved guise, featuring medieval-style spiked armor. The trailer showcased a lethal arsenal of weapons tailored for the Dark Ages theme, including a sawblade that doubles as a shield, a gun incorporating a human skull in its ammo chamber, and a traditional medieval flail. In a spectacular reveal, the Doomslayer was also seen boarding the Atlan, a colossal mech designed for battling behemoth-sized demons.
Doom: The Dark Ages is touted as the origin story of the Doomslayer, tracing his journey from the last hope of a kingdom to becoming the demon-nightmare recognized by fans worldwide. The game is confirmed for release on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. In line with Microsoft's recent practices, it will also be available on Game Pass at launch.
