PlayStation and Xbox: The Battle for Console Supremacy Continues in 2023

February 28, 2023 by Alex Novichenko

Gamers, get ready for some exciting news! According to Ampere Analysis, Xbox Series has sold 18.5 million consoles by the end of last year. While PS5 has surpassed the 30 million mark, which was confirmed by Sony themselves earlier this year. Both Sony and Xbox struggled with component shortages for their production, which slowed down the sales process.

However, Xbox's situation slightly improved last year thanks to the availability of Xbox Series S. But it is expected that in the first half of 2023, the sales gap between Xbox Series and PS5 will widen in favor of the latter, as PlayStation has also resolved their supply issues (unlike Xbox Series X, which still faces availability problems).

Nevertheless, Microsoft's share of the gaming market has grown over 2022 (including hardware, games, and subscriptions) from 25.5% to 27.3%, while Sony's figures dropped from 46.3% to 45%. Users' spending on Game Pass and Xbox hardware has also increased.

In the subscription arena, Microsoft continues to lead, demonstrating record-high Xbox Game Pass holders in the last three months of last year.
