Sony's Upcoming Fiscal Year: Focus on Live-Service Games with No Major Franchise Releases

February 15, 2024 by Alex Novichenko

Sony will not launch any major PlayStation 5 franchise titles until April 2025, focusing instead on live-service games for the next fiscal year ending March 31, 2025.

Hiroki Totoki, Sony Interactive Entertainment's chief, highlighted ongoing development of major projects but confirmed no releases of significant existing franchises like God of War Ragnarok or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 within that timeframe. He expects a slight decrease in first-party software profits due to reduced sales, despite lower acquisition costs. New game franchises are in development, and upcoming PlayStation timed exclusives include Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Rise of the Ronin, and Stellar Blade.

Sony also revised its PS5 sales target from 25 million to 21 million units for the current financial year, noting that the PS5 is now in its latter lifecycle stage, while Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has sold over 10 million copies.
