May 15, 2024 by Alex Novichenko

Veteran developers behind games like Civilization, XCOM, and The Sims have launched Midsummer Studios. Founded by Jake Solomon, Will Miller (both ex-Firaxis Games), and Nelsie Birch, Midsummer Studios starts with $6 million in funding led by Transcend Fund, with investments from Tirta Ventures, Betaworks Ventures, 1Up Ventures, F4 Fund, Krafton, and Day Zero Productions.

Their debut project is a next-gen Life Sim emphasizing player-driven narratives. “The best stories in games are written by the players,” said CEO Jake Solomon. “Our life sim focuses on modern life's drama, allowing players to create and share meaningful stories.”

The team includes Grant Rodiek, formerly of Maxis Studios, and boasts deep experience from Firaxis Games. Midsummer Studios prioritizes sustainable growth and team well-being, offering shared equity and unlimited paid time-off.

More details about their Life Sim title will be revealed as development progresses.
