Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's Classic Maps Get a 2023 Remastered Look

September 14, 2023 by Alex Novichenko

Activision has unveiled remastered multiplayer maps for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, originally from 2009's Modern Warfare 2. These 16 maps, set to return with the Modern Warfare 3 launch on November 10, offer a modernized look while staying true to the originals. They include Afghan, Derail, Estate, Favela, Karachi, Highrise, Invasion, Quarry, Rundown, Rust, Scrapyard, Skidrow, Sub Base, Terminal, Underpass, and Wasteland.

Sledgehammer Games' Art Director Matt Abbott and Design Director Zach Hodson emphasize maintaining the maps' essence while incorporating modern mechanics. Activision mentions enhanced graphics, improved enemy visibility, and more details. Changes, like different vehicle models in Favela and modifications to the soccer pitch, provide a fresh experience.

These Modern Warfare 3 maps were built from scratch, not edited from existing remastered versions. Additionally, the game introduces four massive environments, with three for Ground War and Invasion modes and one for Call of Duty: WWII's War mode.

More details are expected during Call of Duty: Next on October 5. Modern Warfare 3 will release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with beta details available separately.
